Kevin Knox starts his first season abroad with Unicaja

7 Nov 2026 · The First 90 Days

Kevin Knox has made his first move overseas. Unicaja Málaga agreed a deal on 29 October to sign the 27-year-old American forward through the end of the season, pending a medical, and presented him at the Martín Carpena on 5 November.

Knox was the ninth pick in the 2018 NBA Draft after one year at Kentucky. He played 320 NBA games over seven seasons, with the Knicks, Trail Blazers, Pistons, Hawks and Warriors among his teams, and was waived by Orlando after training camp this season. Málaga is his first club outside the US, and he will play in Liga Endesa and the Basketball Champions League.

Sporting director Juanma Rodríguez told SER Málaga, in Spanish, that Knox "will need time because it is his first experience outside American basketball" and that everyone at the club is there to help him. Knox said the squad had welcomed him "with open arms" and that he expects a slower, lower-scoring game in Europe.

What it means for the move

The first 90 days are where a new import is judged, often on a short or rest-of-season deal. Knox has a club openly saying it will help him settle. If you are making your first move abroad, sort housing, a local bank account, your phone and how your salary is paid before the games start counting, so the adjustment you have to make is on the court, not off it.
