Elias Mokwana returns to South Africa with Kaizer Chiefs

6 Nov 2026 · Coming Home

Elias Mokwana is home again. Kaizer Chiefs announced on 4 November that the Bafana Bafana winger has signed after two seasons abroad.

Mokwana is 27 and from KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga. He left Sekhukhune United for Espérance Sportive de Tunis in 2024. With Espérance he helped win the Tunisian league and cup double in 2024/25, with three goals and two assists in 25 appearances across all competitions, and he scored in the 2024 Tunisian Super Cup final. He also played for them at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The 2025/26 season was spent on loan at Al Hazem in the Saudi Pro League, where he featured in 24 league matches.

Before leaving South Africa he made 65 appearances for Sekhukhune over two seasons. He has 11 caps for South Africa, including two at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Financial terms of the Chiefs deal have not been reported.

What it means for the move

Coming home after two seasons in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia is still a move. Housing, banking and the first payday sit under a new contract, and any overseas accounts or cards need a clear plan. If you are returning from a stint abroad, ask early who covers relocation costs, when the first payment lands and in which currency, and what medical and visa paperwork the club wants before you train.
